The Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP) is one of the largest, oldest and most respected evaluators of international creative work. For the first time, J&S entered their heralded Hermes Creative Awards, which this year featured 6,500 entries from 22 different countries in 195 different categories. Our work was awarded both a Gold Award and Honorable Mention in the Print Design category, independently judged by thousands of advertising, marketing, design and PR professionals from around the world.
Bulbs Abound at DSVC Dallas Show
For the first time, J&S entered the esteemed Dallas Society of Visual Communications awards show. Just 25% of all work submitted to 50th Annual Dallas Show was displayed, and we were excited to learn that four of our submissions were selected. At night’s end, 60 category awards were given and the agency was recognized for superior design with a Silver and Bronze Bulb.
Fill ‘er Up with Caliber Food Drive
Did you know the 22 million kids in the US on free/reduced lunch turn to local food banks when the final school bell rings for summer? That’s why for the past 7 years, Caliber Collision has hosted the Rhythm Restoration Food Drive, the collision industry’s largest food drive.
Caliber’s 560 locations partnered with 60 food banks in 17 states to help stock the shelves for students this summer, raising a record 4.2 million meals. As Caliber’s agency, we handle marketing and PR for the event, and we’re always humbled to see how many hardworking J&Sers also choose to donate funds and canned foods for the cause.
Scout Me In with Boy Scouts of America
Johnson & Sekin was awarded the Boy Scouts of America account in December following a national review, but news spread today in AdAge, CNN, Fox, Time and USA Today among many others. That’s because the initial work introduces girls into the program, a historic move by the 108-year old American institution. It also removes the word “Boy” from “Boy Scouts” to now simply read as “Scouts BSA.” The announcement was not only a program shift, but a social shift as well. The new tagline for the organization will be “Scout Me In,” an energetic, youthful phrase that, at the heart, is about inclusiveness. Campaign work will release in full in conjunction with the Back-To-School recruitment period.

Raising $4.7M for American Heart Association
For the second time in three years, the agency created the marketing materials for the Côtes du Coeur, the largest fundraising event in the US For the American Heart Association. Now in its 27th year, the charitable event features a wine auction and celebrity chef dinner spearheaded by legendary local chef Richard Chamberlin. This year’s theme was “Pop HeART” and brought together 16 celebrity chefs and 40 wineries for the black tie gala. The sold-out soiree boasted 1,200 attendees, and raised a record $4.7 million dollars.
Loving Local at AAF Luncheon
AAF Dallas’ monthly luncheon series, “Food For Thought,” this month featured Design Director Shannon Phillips and Account Director Mike Stopper. The topic was “Addy’s Winners Showcase,” and was all about inspiring agencies to support our local ad communities by entering it in national shows.
Pizza Inn Client Named CMO of the Year Finalist
Denise Pedini, EVP of Marketing for our client Pizza Inn, has been named a Finalist for “CMO of the Year” by the DFW chapter of the American Marketing Association. She has become one of DFW’s most notable food marketers, joining Pizza Inn in 2013 after several years of negative-to-flat sales. The turnaround of “America’s Hometown Pizza Place” included eight straight quarters of positive same store sales growth and 20% of restaurants experiencing double-digit growth under her leadership. Denise is the 6th straight “CMO of the Year” Finalist for the agency, with three winning the coveted award.
Steaming Mad for Kuai
Kuai Asian Kitchen has been a downtown Dallas favorite since 2006. The two locations in the Tunnels under Renaissance Tower and Republic Tower have been lunch hotspots for J&S staff for the last eight years. Our paths crossed with founder Jeff Hancock this month, and the agency is now working to enhance the brand as they open their third location near Galleria Dallas. All food is steamed, baked or grilled to give it a fresh, healthy taste served quick. And the new branding, photography, website, collateral and social media gives us yet another excuse to visit a place we’re mad about.
Adding Baylor’s EMBA
After six months of working with “Big Baylor,” J&S is pleased to now be working with the Hankamer School of Business promoting their Executive MBA programs in Dallas and Austin. The program is geared toward working professionals who are looking to advance their careers while balancing their job, family and finances. The spring campaign will include out-of-home and radio in each market, and updated website, digital and social communications.
Welcoming the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office to J&S
Johnson & Sekin was thrilled to interview interim Sheriff Marian Brown as she became Dallas County’s first black Sheriff, as well as the county’s first black female Sheriff. In addition, J&S recognized the heroism of Deputy Katrina Caldwell, who helped subdue a criminal who opened fire on the Dallas Police Department back in 2015.
Sheriff Brown, who grew up in Dallas, Texas, has served in law enforcement for the past 22 years. Prior to her post as interim Sheriff, she spent several years as Assistant Deputy Chief under her predecessor Lupe Valdez, as well as serving as a Sergeant for the Duncanville, Texas Police Department.

Tidmore named to Ad 2 Dallas’ 32 Under 32
Ad 2 Dallas is an affiliate of AAF Dallas, and is exclusively geared toward professionals 32 years of age and under. The organization named its inaugural class of “32 Under 32,” recognizing the best young professional in the Dallas marketplace. That listed included our own ACD/writer Cody Tidmore. In just three years with the agency, Cody has established himself as an integral part of the team, which was proven when he was promoted to Associate Creative Director this past December. We couldn’t be happier that his talents are being recognized in the industry.
